Part-Time Preparator

Museum London is seeking an experienced part-time Preparator to assist with the intake, unloading,
installation, transport, and takedown of exhibitions and exhibition-related materials, as well as handing the collection, and operating and maintaining department tools and supplies. Reporting to the Head of Collections, Exhibitions, and Programs, and consulting on a direct day-to-day basis, with the Chief Preparator, the part-time Preparator follows exhibition specifications developed by Museum London staff.

The successful candidate takes direction from the Chief Preparator and works with appropriate Museum London staff to ensure the safe keeping of all exhibition-related materials and the collection. The part-time Preparator works to ensure art and history exhibitions are professionally installed and struck on time. They will be handling works of art and artifacts belonging to the Museum, as well those objects on loan from other institutions to the Museum. The part-time Preparator contributes to projects involving basic carpentry, painting, matting/framing, exhibition lighting and electronic media (audio-visual and computer equipment, etc.).

This position is part-time as needed. The Preparator will be contacted in advance of available work by
the Chief Preparator. Normally part-time preparatory staff can expect to work one- to three-week
periods, Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, three times a calendar year, during exhibition
takedowns and installations. They may be asked to work on other occasions, as required.

This position is part of the CUPE bargaining unit. Current Collective Agreement hourly rate range is
$20.53-$27.41.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

The successful candidate will have basic proficiency in carpentry, matting/framing, exhibition lighting,
electronic media, and computer-driven applications. A valid driver’s license and professional experience handling art or artifacts are assets.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Grade 12
