As the only annual juried awards of its kind, the iconic GOG Awards celebrate the outstanding achievement, artistic merit, and excellence of arts institutions and professionals in the public art gallery sector. Check back on November 1st, 2021 to see the awards shortlist announcement!

Public art galleries and art museums are an integral part of Canada’s visual arts sector and hold a key role in Canada’s economy; every year 99% of Canadians participate in the arts, culture, and heritage in some way. Now more than ever, our cultural sector needs to be celebrated and honoured. The GOG Awards were made to highlight the continued excellence, innovation, and importance of the public art galleries, art museums, art centres, and art organizations.

These awards are a major benefit of membership as they play a vital role in peer recognition, help raise the profile of the public art gallery sector and are highly prized by recipients.

The GOG Awards acknowledges both institutions and individuals. Their breadth and depth of recognition are unparalleled among other arts service organizations. The Awards recognize artistic merit and excellence and distinguish outstanding achievement in ten categories: Exhibition, Public Programs, Education, Art Publication, Design, Partnerships, Lifetime Achievement, Colleague, and Volunteer.

The awards are instrumental in educating the public about the importance of Ontario’s public art galleries as essential cultural resources and institutions. The event is open to the public and is advertised online to key stakeholders of the visual arts sectors such as curators, directors, art collectors, government officials, funders, and established cultural workers.
